Venice is on the Gulf Coast south of Sarasota. The early pioneers planted orange groves and the village became a boat building and fishing center.
A dynamic woman named Bertha Honore’ Palmer bought large acreage in the area and helped develop it into the busy beautiful city it is today. The Brotherhood of Railroad Engineers rescued the city during the 1920s.
