Steinhatchee is an unincorporated fishing village on the Gulf of Mexico at the end of a long lonely road. The first syllable of its name rhymes with “Mean Joe Green.”
About 1,000 people live and work in this outpost about 70 miles west of Gainesville. The town booms with visitors during scalloping season.
