Since earliest times, Floridians have made their living from the waters that surround the state. With more than 1200 miles of coastline, the ocean is part of the state's history, heritage and economy.
Commercial fishing was an important industry in the 1800s and waterfront towns sprung up across the state. Many of them boomed and busted and boomed again. Today some have waterfronts healthier than ever.
