Monticello is the county seat of Jefferson County. The county was named after Thomas Jefferson. The town named after his home is located about 20 miles east of Tallahassee.
It is a small working class southern town of about 2,500 people that serves not only as the county seat, but as a supply center for the surrounding farms.
