Marineland was one of the first places I visited many years ago when I moved to Florida. It has been my favorite over the years, and was Florida’s most popular tourist attraction for years until Walt Disney World and SeaWorld showed up.
So why a photo of the old grizzled geezer? No, that’s not me. It’s Count Leo Tolstoy, the author of “War and Peace.” His grandson, County Ilya Tolstoy, was one of the founders of Marine Studios in 1938. You can still visit and marvel at the place.
