Hillsboro Inlet, Florida
Pompano Beach, Lighthouse Point, Hillsboro Beach and the Barefoot Mailman
Hillsboro Inlet connects the Intracoastal Waterway to the Atlantic Ocean near Pompano Beach. The lighthouse at the inlet was first lit in 1907 and can be seen from ships 28 miles at sea.
The communities around the inlet celebrate the Barefoot Mailman. In early days there was no regular mail delivery to south Florida. These heroic guys walked on the beach on round trips of 136 miles to deliver the mail.
