Wild hogs are present in all 67 Florida counties. They are descendants of pigs brought to Florida by Spanish explorers in the 1500s. There are at least 500,000 of them in the state.
Wild hogs can weigh more than 150 pounds and measure 5 to 6 feet in length. These animals destroy crops, wetlands and other habitats by constantly rooting up the soil while searching for food. They also prey on native wildlife and compete with native species for food. They will eat anything, including a wolf now and then.
